What do you learn about yourself when you leave home for one year?
It all started nearly one year ago in August 2015. I was overworked, i gained 20+ kilos and I was pretty unhappy with my life. Sounds familiar to you? Then you should act, right now. And i mean it. Write me, if I can be any help. If you are an startup founder we are looking forward to onboard new members to our club. That also contains free stay in our villas or apartments world wide.
The start, book the first few stops, the rest, improvise.
To get you a little insight:
Before and after based on my personal experience:
2015: You work literally the whole day and your focus is work only.
2016: You try to work as productive as possible, of course if you are dedicated to an idea in this case a startup you will still be thinking 10 or 14 hours a day about your startup, but productive output is mostly in the range of 4 to 6 hours.
Family & Friends
2015: You are actually just spending time with your really close circle means your Mom, Dad and maybe your Sister and Brother
2016: You should get a strong women/men, who is always behind you and backs you up in tought times, mostly also an entrepreneur. So She/He can understand how you feel. Keep close contact with your Parents and Siblings, they are always there for you, even if you have bad times.
2015: Austria/Switzerland, mostly cold weather, 30-70 days „Summer“ expensive costs of living, not startup friendly.
2016: Asia, 350 days real summer, you wake up mostly every day to 35+ degrees. Less expensive cost of living and perfect conditions for bootstrapping your startup.
2015: „working“ 14+ hours a day, but the output was simply not even close to 4-6 real productive hours – always hire someone who is better than you in the certain tasks/to dos
2016: know when and where you are the most productive, use this time to solve the real hard problems. Make sure you can „work“ also from your smartphone, at least the tools you use should be usable from a smartphone as well, so you can contribute from everywhere, anytime to the team.
2015: don’t care if you pull in 20 USD fuel in your car to just get to your workspace over to an american express bill of 15.000€ or eating that random swiss lunch for 25 USD? Then you should directly order The Power of Broke, this helps to focus again and get you out of big debt.
2016: after knowing how much value you can get for 1 USD either in private or business life you try to get always the most out of the budget you have. You will also start appreciate all the small things in life which you maybe lost during your „I can do everything myself and I don’t need anybody“ phase of life.
2015: fancy and expensive cars, a flat where you just sleep in but you pay 1500 USD for it every damn month or just the many things you need to prove yourself or others.
2016: Watch, Iphone, Macbook, Wallet, 18 T shirts, 5-10 Tailored Shirt, 5 Pants and two Hand Luggages where you can put everything inside, if you ever came to this point, you will see how much different your life feels. If you can just decide to fly to Hong Kong and stay there for a few weeks, because it’s how you live and work.
You think after being overworked and so many call it burned out, you will just need 2-3 months off? Depending where you came from and how much went wrong, do yourself a favour and calculate up to 12 months, this is the time it took for me to fully recover and a good sign is, listening to your inner circle, they know you the best and they will also tell you when they think you are the good old person they knew.
of course there is many more about it, but way too much for one single blog post. We will split it up over the several next months and provide more insights on the most difficult parts of recovery.
Always get in touch with me if you want, we love to connect with new people inside our club.
All the best in your journey of knowing who you are and what you want in life.
